Coastal Action 3.0 Involves Hundreds of Seribu Islands Fishermen

As many as 125 fishermen from six sub-districts took part in Coastal Action 3.0 activities programmed by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (HA-FPIK) IPB together with the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries.

This activity took place on Tidung Kecil Island, South Seribu Islands, last Sunday (9/17).

Jakarta Mairitime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP)'s Maritime Division Head, Imam Fitrianto supports Coastal Action 3.0, which takes the form of mangrove tree planting, beach cleaning, and sharing activities.

"It is very positive, especially involving the community and the environment," he expressed, Monday (9/18).

According to him, the planting mangroves activity had many benefits. These included preventing coastal erosion, then being able to produce oxygen as well as absorb toxic gases and function as marine biota.

"It also aims to maintain the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem in the waters of the Seribu Islands," he expressed.

Seribu Islands Environment Sub-agency Head, Sujanto Budiroso explained it is an effort to keep the waters clean from plastic waste, tree trunks, metal, and residue.

In the future, it is hoped that it could be further encouraged considering that educating the public is important, thus they start sorting waste.

"If our waters are clean, it will become an attractive tourist destination," he explained.

Coastal Action 3.0 Head from FPIK IPB Alumnus, Rahmat Mulianda added his party planted 2,500 rhizophora mangrove seedlings, cleaned the coast of Tidung Kecil Island, and distributed basic necessities to 125 fishermen.

"This is our effort to take an active role in preserving coasts and beaches," he stated.
